Not Just a Big Event but a Great Event as well

The Big Event for 2012 has closed and by all accounts it was a very good first up effort by the organising committee. The aim of this event is to give the disability sector in Auckland something to identify with, something that they can call their own and something that showcases all the positives surrounding the disability sector. Our aim is to engage with the 20% of the population who have some form of disability be it physical, mental, sensory or age related. This event will become the number one event on our calendar.

We could not host an event like this without the generosity of so many people. The National Health Board, Halberg Trust, Te Pou Disability Workforce Development, Spectrum Care Trust, Cerebral Palsy, Phab, Carabina Mentoring and The Auckland Mobility Warehouse. Thank you to all organisations that both donated money and resources to get us going. We thank also the many people who gave so generously of their time and their effort in organising this event. We also thank the many volunteers who turned out on the day to make sure it all ran smoothly.

Will there be an event in 2013? We have not yet had our Event Review because we all took a week off to recover but feedback we have received suggests that the community wants it and we are certainly keen to see if we can improve on this effort.

Photographs are available from the event by clicking http://www.russellmeek.com/#!__the-big-event  and using the password bigevent.

You can also watch a video round up of the event kindly produced by Be. accessible an organisation with very much the same values as The Big Event in wanting an accessible environment for everybody. You can view the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GN90YMstcH0

If you went to the Big Event and would like to make suggestions as to how we can improve for next time, please feel free to email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
